Travelle Goes To Manila with Camille Co

Interviewed by Kate Cheng

Next up in our Travelle Goes To series: Manila. A ladyboss will always need a little help from her friends, and summer travel is no different. Whether you're traveling to Mexico City or Tokyo, Travelle has tips on what to wear, where to eat, all while looking beautiful! We sat down with blogger and fashion designer Camille, of Camille Tries To Blog, about how to work and play in Manila this July. Founder of fashion brand Coexist, and with a Mango campaign and Kate Spade collaboration under her belt, this is one entrepreneur who commands attention.

What tips you would share with women travellers to Manila?

Dress for our weather. It can get really hot here so light, casual clothes are perfect. You'll want to be able to go around without worrying about your belongings as well, so I highly recommend using a cross body bag.

When it comes to beauty, stick to more water-based products because it can get pretty humid here. And most importantly, don't forget to apply sunscreen! We get plenty of sun in Manila!

What are the best exercise studios, restaurant, and spas in Manila?

I've personally been going to Fitness First for the longest time, so this is what I can recommend from experience. Although we do have plenty of yoga places here too - Plana Forma, barre3 etc.

For restaurants, I like Wholesome Table! I used to think I can never eat healthy but Wholesome Table is just one of the many restaurants that proved me wrong.

And in terms of spas - you're in luck! Filipinas love to pamper and take care of themselves. For beauty products, go to Rustan's. For spas, go to The Spa or go out of town and try Nurture Spa or Qi Wellness.

What staple pieces or outfits do you pack for a work or leisure trip (including nights out!)?

For work, definitely a blazer and pair of heels. You'll never know when you'll have to power dress. As for leisure, a hat, a pair of comfy flats and basics I can easily mix and match with other pieces whenever I feel lazy. Zara is always a good bet. You'll find plenty of trendy yet sophisticated pieces there. Locally though, we've got a brand called Harlan + Holden. I highly recommend it as well for simple and sleek clothes.

For a night out, I recommend a sequined top and a pair of sexy shorts. You'll want to be able to move around comfortably but still stand out at the same time so this outfit would be perfect!

What would you recommend a lady wear to work meetings in Manila?

It's always best to command the right kind of attention and respect when it comes to work so I recommend a crisp button down shirt paired with wide leg trousers or a knee length pencil skirt or even worn under a dress. When it comes to colors and prints, make sure they're not too distracting.

How would you describe the local street style?

Generally, we have a diverse fashion scene here in Metro Manila. Like any other capital, it depends on which part of Metro Manila you're in. We're definitely becoming more and more fashionably aware though so you'll see plenty of trendy fashionistas here. But because we're a tropical country, more women favor easy pieces and resort wear.
