As one of the most prestigious and publicized film industry events in the world, The Cannes International Film Festival is just as famous for its glamorous attendees as it is for the films it shows.
Audrey Tcherkoff, a French-born Robert Wan executive based in Dubai, is heading to Cannes to enjoy screenings at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès and to participate in The PlaNet Finance annual charity dinner. Having lived in Paris, New York, Tokyo and Dubai while studying and working with Jean-Claude Jitrois and Yves Saint Laurent prior to becoming the CEO of the Tahiti-based pearl producer, Audrey is no stranger to traveling or fashion. She shares her plans and tips for her trip to the festival.
What does your typical day look like while in Cannes?
Since I left France to live in Dubai 8 years ago, I really cherish the time I spend in my home country. The weather in Cannes is warm in May and sets the tone for the summer in France.
I love my routine of walking down the Promenade de la Croisette and having lunch with my family and friends who live there. We usually meet at Les Pêcheurs in Cab d'Antibes or at La Plage 45 the at Le Grand Hotel Cannes which are right on the beach and have delicious seafood platters. Afternoons are great to relax by the water and to enjoy a glass of wine, as I rarely have some free time!
I plan to see as many screenings at the festival as I can. The energy at the Palais is magical and seeing such great movies in that setting is an amazing experience. Let’s not forget the inspiring audience to make it feel even more special.
What are you looking forward to the most during the Cannes Film Festival?
I really can’t wait for the PlaNet Finance annual charity event. I joined the board of this wonderful organization last year. It’s mission is to alleviate poverty through the development of microfinance. The funds we raise will be spent on the expanding, improving and supporting the current and future projects. I’m thrilled that we keep growing because of the trust of people and their will to create a better world by empowering people through sustainable actions.
What's your style for this special occasion?
My style is an ever-evolving mix of both the classic and eclectic. I like to mix high-end pieces with high-street stores with a bohemian twist!
That night I will wear a dress custom designed by my friend Natalia Arandes who has just launched her own label in Dubai, and complete the look with Sergio Rossi heels, a silk Bottega Venetta clutch and, of course, a beautiful Robert Wan necklace with a mix of stones and pearls that I designed myself.
Working with the foundation and attending charity events dressed in such beautiful pieces reminds me of how privileged I am.
What are some of the travel essentials you absolutely must have with you during the trip?
Since I spend a lot of the daytime walking around while in Cannes, flats are a must. I have been wearing Les Tropeziennes by Rondini since childhood and I recently discovered K. Jacques sandals, both of which are elegant enough to wear with summer dresses but I can also wear them to the beach with a nice tunic. I also love the Troy sandals by Duccio Verturi in black.
The dress code in the evening during the festival is formal, and most people wear long gowns to events. There is an overwhelming number of fabulous dinners and cocktail parties, so I usually pack a couple of dresses and accessories that work well with both of them. This year I plan to bring the Gucci Crystal-Embellished Silk-Cady Gown with a Kotur Espey elaphe box clutch and the Giambattista Valli Floral-print silk-chiffon gown. For a more casual occasion, I will wear a colorful number by Etro.
Are there any beauty products that you can't be without while traveling?
The Chantecaille sunscreen set has me covered from head to toe for the daytime activities on the beach. I also can’t live without Blue Orchid Face Oil by Clarins! A few drops before going to sleep keeps my skin glowing and it helps it recover from the sun. In the evening, I like to spray a calming aromatherapy scent on my pillow to decompress after the fun night out.
Since the Cannes Film Festival is a heavily photographed event, for this trip I pack a Kérastase Gloss Appeal spray to give my hair extra shine. I also like the transparent high definition powder from Make Up For Ever to touch up my face throughout the night.
Where will you be staying?
I always stay at the Cap d’Antibes Beach Hotel. It's the only Relais & Chateau property in the area and it has direct access to the beach. I love the location, I love the service and the restaurant is fantastic.
What are some of your favorite healthy local dinner spots?
There are some outstanding dining options in the area. The local Mediterranean dishes are not only full of flavor but they're also colorful, fresh and very healthy. La Petite Maison de Nicole is a must try. It's an institution with a 20 year history and it’s famous for its pasta with truffles.
Between seeing family, the magic of the festival, my charity dinner and the great food - I have a lot to look forward to in Cannes!
