We know Coachella’s been and gone, but all that means is festival season is round the corner. We know it’s basic, involves way too much fringe and a whole lot more #squad-spotting...buuut we aren't that fussed. Festival is a mindset, y’all. For all you festival-goers, there are certain essentials you need when heading over, girlfriends and cross-body bucket bags in tow, to EDC, Ultra, or other VIP camps overseas. It’s like the invite to the cool party you never got at high school. Only this time it costs $3829207301 and the snacks aren’t free.
A Sturdy Pair of Shoes
Depending on where you’re going, you’re going to need to keep your feet out of the elements, be that the sun, rain, or (ick) mud. We’re recommending these Acne heeled boots if you’re somewhere wet and a little sticky, since you’ll need to keep those tootsies covered if you’re going to be jumping around at the front of stage. That they're waterproof doesn’t hurt, either. But if you’re going to Beniccassim or somewhere hot and dry, perhaps a platform wedge might do the trick, since there’ll be less risk of slipping and sliding. Plus, if you’re a little, uh, vertically challenged, that little comfortable boost of height will help you see the best acts and a good view of the stage, even if you’re not super into the idea of diving into sweaty crowds at perfect armpit-graze level just to get a chance at making eye contact with the lead singer (though #confession: we’ve totally been there).
Antiseptic Towelettes/Paper Soap
Because port-a-loos aren’t always the most well-equipped of facilities; sometimes your banana and oat breakfast smoothie (organic, natch) cools down faster than you’d like, and because sometimes, just being in a mosh pit can make you feel a little grossed out. We love the aloe vera infused ones, which leave you feeling a little more refreshed while also offering a little moisturising. Also great for when you drop a lil’ ketchup or spill your overpriced cosmo on your shirt (we’re not judging though, dw).
When you’re outdoors for that long, and with such prolonged exposure to the sun, keeping your skin sun-protected is kiiiinda crucial. Melanoma is not chic! However, making sure your skin stays ray-free and clear-pored is just not easy when you’re battling sweat, dust, and wear-and-tear from pollution and high air humidity. We definitely recommend going for a mineral one containing zinc oxide or titanium oxide, as well as a thorough application that massages it well into the skin. When in doubt, a UV umbrella should add extra coverage.
Nothing says ‘I’m awake’ like a pair of fluttery lashes, and we’re really feeling this formula from Diorshow Black Out Waterproof Mascara – the fat brush distributes product evenly and gives you lashes that are separated, sans-clumps, and so fat, people will be asking you for directions to the nearest salon. Needless to say, a waterproof one is essential to avoid mid-rage smearing and or keeping the most pesky ‘hot mess’ looks at bay.
Yeah, ok, so this one was a bit of a no-brainer. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? We like these ones from Rag and Bone. Durable, weather-and-water-friendly, and adding just the right amount of cool, we think these should be your fail-safe. Plus they look even cooler on second (or twentieth) wear.
