Frolicking in the rolling surf may be fun for two glorious holiday weeks, but when you finally come home from your travels and dry off, your hair likely feels, well – dry. Sun, sea and sand don’t sound so glamorous now that you’ve got split ends and damaged roots to deal with! Fear not, here are Travelle’s favourite beauty remedies to rescue your tresses from all that UV over-exposure and humidity on the beach, taking your hair from blah to bombshell faster than you can say beach waves.
Originally intended for those who rock a curl, the paraben and sulphate-free DevaCurl No-Poo cleanses without lathering – no oil-stripping foam with this wheat-based shampoo. Its sister, the coconut-infused Low-Poo, is also great for a straight or relaxed style - a lightly lathering formula if you need a little something extra to gently wash away excess dirt and oil build up. Our strands felt squeaky clean, but not over-stripped. Travelle highly recommends.
If Whole Foods and Moroccanoil had a love child, this would be it. Buriti oil makes this conditioner a perfect go-to after too much chlorine, UVB, or salt may have left your hair frazzled and dry. So heavy it almost seems like a treatment, saturating our ends in this yellow formula did not weigh us down, but in fact left us with deeply moisturised tresses. After a week of consistent application, our hair seemed well on the way to recovery. A Travelle must-have.
A real superpower masque, Alterna’s Caviar Repair X rescues thinning, ageing or coloured hair with added keratin and strand-building proteins. Massaging this onto dry and brittle tresses felt like coating our hair in honeyed milk – pure salon. After a 5 minute wait where we allowed the product to sink in, our hair was noticeably smoother and more resilient. Smells luxurious, too.
Keeping flyaways and frizz at bay becomes a no-brainer with this elixir-like oil, specially formulated to rejuvenate strands after too much sun exposure. The botanical blend of ingredients such as perilla and annatto naturally replenishes hair’s natural oils. Fast absorbing and non-greasy, only a mild, organic scent wafted through our locks after any excess washed off easily with water.
If, however, you do want to take some of that beach vibe home with you after all, say hello to Dry Bar’s Mai Tai Sea Salt Spray – a mixture of avocado oil, algae and sea salt. An alternative to the classic Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, it’s basically the ocean in a bottle! Divide hair into four sections, and twist into loose coils. Mist lightly, hold, and gently scrunch from roots to ends for textured, Gisele-worthy waves.
Here’s to bouncy, healthy hair for all!
